台南美術館位於台南市的中西區，是一座融合歷史與現代美學的藝術場域。它由兩座館舍組成：一館原為1931年日治時期興建的台南警察署，屬於Art Deco建築風格，經過修復後保留了原有的歷史風貌，如今成為展示藝術與文化的空間，內部設有多間展廳、修復室與咖啡館，是一個讓歷史與藝術交會的所在。而二館則於2019年落成，由台灣建築師石昭永與日本建築大師坂茂共同設計，靈感來自台南街頭常見的鳳凰花。整體建築以幾何碎形與自然光為特色，打破傳統美術館的封閉感，使人置身其中時彷彿與空間一同呼吸。
台南美術館的展覽內容多元，致力於呈現台灣本土藝術發展脈絡，同時也引進國際級主題展覽，例如曾引發討論熱潮的《亞洲地獄與幽魂》特展，結合信仰、死亡與文化觀點，讓藝術不只是賞析，也是一種思考與體驗。除此之外，館方積極推動文化平權，透過兒童、長者、偏鄉群體的參與計畫，讓藝術真正進入生活每一個角落。

The Tainan Art Museum, located in the Central West District of Tainan City, is a cultural venue that seamlessly blends history and modern aesthetics. The museum consists of two buildings: Building 1 was originally constructed in 1931 during the Japanese colonial period as the Tainan Police Department. Designed in the Art Deco architectural style, it has been carefully restored to preserve its historical character. Today, it serves as a space for exhibiting art and culture, housing multiple galleries, a restoration room, and a café—where history and art engage in meaningful dialogue.
Building 2, completed in 2019, was co-designed by Taiwanese architect Shi Zhao-Yong and Japanese Pritzker Prize winner Shigeru Ban. Inspired by the flamboyant flame trees commonly seen in Tainan, the building features geometric, fragmented forms and abundant natural light, breaking away from the enclosed feeling of traditional museums. Being inside the space feels like breathing in sync with the architecture.
The museum presents a diverse range of exhibitions, with a strong focus on the development of Taiwanese art while also hosting international shows. Notably, the exhibition “Ghosts and Hells: The Underworld in Asian Art” drew widespread attention with its exploration of faith, death, and cultural narratives—transforming art from a visual experience into an immersive, intellectual one. In addition, the museum actively promotes cultural inclusivity by organizing programs for children, the elderly, and remote communities, making art accessible to everyone.
