Xiamen, a coastal city, carries a slow and unhurried charm. In the early morning, sunlight spills over the coastal roads as cyclists ride against the salty sea breeze. In the distance, waves gently crash against the rocks, creating a rhythmic melody. Egrets circle in the sky, as if paying homage to Xiamen’s nickname, “Egret Island.”

Venturing into the old town, the alleys of Gulangyu are quiet and mysterious. Red brick houses, European-style villas, and lush green vines intertwine, as if one has stepped into a fold of time. At the end of a narrow lane, the faint sound of a piano drifts through the air. Pushing open an old wooden door, you might find a bookstore or a café, where travelers sit leisurely, flipping through books.

Xiamen’s bustling street food culture is hidden in the alleys of Shapowei and Zhongshan Road. As evening falls, steaming bowls of satay noodles, fragrant oyster omelets, and sweet peanut soup fill the air with irresistible aromas. It’s hard to resist stopping at a street stall, sitting down, and savoring the warmth of everyday life in this city.

As night descends, the sea breeze blows gently. The city lights up, and the shimmering glow of Yanwu Bridge reflects on the water, swaying slightly with the waves. Unlike the fast-paced nightlife of other cities, Xiamen’s nights are calm and unhurried—like a freshly brewed cup of oolong tea, warm and lingering.

This is Xiamen—a city where time slows down, where the sea and wind tell stories, and where every corner holds a quiet beauty.
